Understanding Value Metrics
When comparing batteries, it's important to look beyond the initial purchase price. Our value analysis tab provides several metrics to help you assess the true cost and value of each battery:
Cost per Ah
The cost divided by the capacity in amp-hours. Lower values indicate better value for capacity.
Cost per Wh
The cost divided by the energy capacity in watt-hours. This metric normalizes across different voltages.
Cost per Cycle
The cost divided by the expected cycle life. This indicates the value over the battery's lifetime.
Energy Density
The energy capacity divided by weight (Wh/kg). Higher values indicate a lighter battery for the same capacity.
Lifetime Energy
The total energy the battery can deliver over its lifetime (energy capacity × cycle life).
Lifetime Value
The cost divided by lifetime energy. This is the most comprehensive measure of long-term value.
Choosing the Right Battery
When selecting a battery, consider these factors beyond just specifications:
- Application Requirements: Different applications have different priorities. For example, weight might be critical for portable applications, while cycle life is more important for stationary energy storage.
- Environmental Conditions: Consider the operating temperature range and environmental conditions where the battery will be used.
- Safety Considerations: For applications in occupied spaces or with specific safety requirements, LiFePO4 batteries offer enhanced thermal stability.
- Budget Constraints: Consider both upfront costs and long-term value based on your expected usage pattern.
